WPM: Words Per Minute - Measuring your speaking speed in words per minute

Modified on Tue, 31 Dec, 2024 at 12:13 PM

Average WPM stands for "Average Words Per Minute," which is a metric used to measure the speed of speech.

WPM is the average number of words spoken per minute during a TOEFL Speaking response. See your WPM in your task scores on your Progress page.

You can also see your WMP for every task in the WPM column on your Feedback page.

In My Speaking Score, Average WPM is an important Key Performance Indicator (KPI) that measures the speaking speed of users who have scored highly on our platform.

Users who consistently score in the "Good" range (i.e. a TOEFL Speaking score of 26 or higher) have an average speaking speed of 179.63 words per minute.

This means that, on average, these high-scoring users spoke almost 180 words per minute during their speeches or conversations.

By tracking Average WPM as a TOEFL Speaking KPI, you can identify your own speaking speed and make adjustments to improve your performance.

Note: Speaking Rate is a SpeechRater measurement of your words per second.
